Faculty Advisor – Xia Jin, Ph.D.

Dr. Xia Jin is an Associate Professor with the Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Florida International University (FIU). Dr. Jin has over 10 years of professional and academic experience in transportation planning. She is the director of the Travel Behavior and System Modeling lab at FIU. Through behavioral econometrics, big data analytics, and GIS-based spatial analysis, her research focuses on human and freight mobility choice behavior as influenced by the urban systems, and the consequent effects on the economic, social, environmental and health outcomes. Dr. Jin has served as the principle investigator for various transportation planning projects sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation (DOT), and the United States DOT through the University Transportation Research Centers (UTC). Dr. Jin serves on two committees for the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies: the Transportation and Land Development Committee (ADD30), and the Committee on Effects of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) on Travel Choices (ADB20). Dr. Jin holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and Masters of Urban Planning and Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. She is also a professionally certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) since 2008.

 

PresidentMosammat Tahnin Tariq

Mosammat Tahnin Tariq is currently enrolled in Doctoral Program at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Florida International University (FIU). She is focused to continue her research in the field of Transportation Engineering with particular emphasis on  Intelligent Transportation System, Integrated Corridor Management, Ramp metering Technology, and Freeway Safety.  Ms. Tariq is working closely with Dr. Mohammed Hadi in the Lehman Center for Transportation Research (LCTR) at FIU. She completed her Bachelor degree from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) and Masters degrees from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). She was a faculty member in Stamford University Bangladesh. She is currently serving as the President of WTS @ FIU Student Chapter.

 

Vice President- Rajib Saha

Rajib Saha, graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) in 2009 majoring in Civil Engineering. After 5 years of working in private and public sector in Bangladesh, joined to University of North Dakota (UND), ND, USA in Fall’15 to pursue M.S. in Transportation Engineering. In Fall’17, he joined to FIU for pursuing PhD in Transportation Engineering. His research is focused on planning and operation of traffic using Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).

 

Secretary – Ghazaleh Azimi 

Ghazaleh got hery master degree from University of Tehran in Transportation Engineering.  Currently, She is a graduate research assistant at the Florida International University. She is working under the supervision of  Dr. Xia Jin , as a member of the Lehman Center of Transportation Research.Her research interests include Crash and safety analysis, Automated vehicles, and Travel behavior.

 

 

 

Treasurer –Hector Mata

Hector is a PhD student and research assistant at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Florida International University. He is part of the research team working with Dr. Mohamed Hadi at the  ITS Lab at the Engineering Center in FIU. Hector received his bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from the Technological Institute of Durango and later got a master degree from FIU in 2013. His research areas include travel time and delay studies as well as data analysis and business intelligence applications in Transportation Engineering.

 

Social Coordinator Mahmoud Arafat  

Mahmoud Arafat  is a graduate student and research assistant at the Florida International University in Civil and Environmental Engineering. During his master degree, Mahmoud was working on two projects, Survey and Economic Analysis of Pavement Impacts from Studded Tire Use in Alaska, and Frequency and Potential Severity of Red Light Running in Anchorage. Both projects are funded by the Alaska Department of Transportation (DOT&PF) and are being overseen by Professor Abaza. Currently, he is working on his doctorate degree at FIU under the supervision of Professor Mohammed Hadi, as a member of the Lehman Center of Transportation Research. He is working on different funded research projects from Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

 

CSO RepresentativeSohana Afreen

She completed her B.Sc from Khulna University of Engineering & Technology. Now she is doing her M.Sc in Florida International University in the Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering and working as a research assistant in the Lehman Center for Transportation Research Lab under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Hadi. Currently she is involved in ATMS (Advanced Transportation Management System) part of Intelligent Transportation Systems. She has also interest in Transportation Operation and Management and also a member of ITE and WTS group.

 

Membership ChairHillary Lopez

Hillary Lopez is an undergraduate student researcher at Florida International University completing a B.S degree in civil engineering with a focus on transportation.  She is has won the Ronald E. McNair Baccalaureate Scholarship and conducted poster and oral presentations in undergraduate research conferences in Miami and in New Mexico.  Currently, she is working as an ITS Intern in FIU and conducting research under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Hadi and Dr. Melissa Baralt while finishing her senior year.
